Aquanatal

When your body is in water the effects of gravity are reduced. It becomes more buoyant and you experience a wonderful feeling of weightlessness. This is especially relevant when you are pregnant and carrying around more weight than usual! Water also supports the body and allows exercises to be performed which would be difficult, if not impossible, on dry land. It cushions joints from compression and helps mobility. Water also gives its own resistance so can increase the effect of exercise - this means that you can enjoy more gentle exercises knowing they are just as beneficial in water as a tough work out would be on dry land. Aquanatal classes are planned to be fun and social. Come with friends, or come and make new friends. Music provided!

Aquanatal classes can be started from 12 weeks - after your first scan has confirmed your dates. If you keep well and your pregnancy continues normally, you can continue until the baby is born. You will be asked to complete a confidential health questionnaire before starting. If you have any concerns about whether you should be attending the classes, do ask your midwife or GP first.

A few hints, if it's your first time: Please arrive a little earlier to complete your health questionnaire. Have a snack before you come. Keep hydrated - drink water before, after and even during the class.
